Permission Request
Dear Sir/ Madam,
As part of the coursework for my A-level Media Studies course, I have to create a music video of a song of my choice. After thorough research and planning, I have decided that I would like to do The Script's 'Broken Arrow' from the album #3. I am just writing to ask for permission to use this song in my A-Level coursework, as it is owned by your record label Columbia Records. This will be non profit and is will be put onto my blog to show the examiner. This is a necessary part of OCR'S coursework specification. If this is not the correct department then please direct me to the right people for my request.
Thankyou in advance,
Yours faithfully, Oliver Watson

Group choices
Will Brook
Oliver Watson
I chose to work with Will because we worked together on our AS coursework, creating a thriller opening sequence, and this was very successful. He is very conscientious, meaning that organising shooting days and meeting up for working on our product is easy and hassle free. He is very experienced with camerawork, as he is a keen photographer and has all of the relevant equipment. He comes up with great ideas for shooting angles and shot types, as he studied media for GCSE and Alevel, meaning that he has a wide understanding of media in general, and has all the necessary knowledge of shots, angles and how to create meaning through a media piece.Initial thoughts
What I'm looking forward to:
I'm looking forward to learning about how to create a music video that meets the various theories we are going to study, and im excited to film the video and edit it.
What I am nervous about:
I'm worried that a lack of good ideas may prevent us from reaching the higher marks. If we can't think of a good idea to use in our video then we will be prevented from reaching the top marks.
What are you excited about?
I am really excited about this project, as I have experience with music, and run my own YouTube channel dedicated to drum covers of popular songs. This has developed my editing techniques and knowledge about the music industry. In future I hope to become a musician, so the skills that I learn from this course will be crucial. At university, I am hoping to study popular music and performance which has strong links to this media course, such as through creating music videos. Lots of skills which are needed and developed throughout this course can be transferred from the media industry to the music industry.
Who will you be working with?
I will be working with Will Brook for this coursework, and we will be an ideal partnership. Whilst I am experienced with the music side of the video and the editing, Will is a very keen photographer, and is hoping to study media at university. We will collaborate well during this course, as we can share ideas about the video, and create a product which we are both proud of.
What stage is the most difficult?
The initial ideas are the most difficult stage, as without a good idea the video will fail. To extend our chances of getting the best grades possible, we will analyse various music videos from a variety of genres and use what we have learnt in our very own video.
